read.csv() wasn't working well when I wanted to read in some .csv files from my GitHub repository, so I had to resort to another option. I guess read.csv() doesn't work well with https:// url's. There are some nifty functions available in other R packages, but I am trying to reduce the number of dependencies when I eventually publish my R package(s). Thus, I wrote a function that allows the user to directly download a .csv file from GitHub. I may modify this later to allow different data types to be accommodated.
If you're interested in using this function (readGitHub), the R code has been made available on GitHub/MorphoFun.
Update from 20:22 PM - Modified the function, so that it can read tab-delimited text files as well.
Update from 24 July 2015 at 11:37AM EST: Updated readGitHub so that it has the same flexibilities as read.table for importing data, and with some annotation/roxygen notes.
